It appears that Karl Largerfeld is on a mission to personally bring back the glamour and decadence of Hollywood’s Golden Age with his recent forays in fashion films. While the industry was still reeling from that Chanel No 5 advertisement featuring Gisele Bundchen, Lagerfeld allowed little time to recover before dropping a teaser trailer for his next fashion short, which will be shown in full at the upcoming Paris-Salzburg 2014/15 Metiers d’art collection on the 1st December.
Titled Reincarnation, the 40 second clip takes us to an opulent ballroom where, against the repetitive beats of an original Pharrell Williams track, a very quaffed Cara Delevingne plays Empress Elizabeth of Austria, with flowers in her hair and diamonds in her ears, who snaps her fan and dances with a debonair Pharrell, who takes on the role of Joseph I, Emperor of Austria. The pairing comes as little surprise amidst rumours that Williams and Delevingne have been working on the model-of-the-very-long-lasting-moment’s debut album.
The full short relays the true tale of the lift attendant whose uniform inspired the now iconic Chanel jacket. “It was time to show the origins of the Chanel jacket, inspired by the one worn by the lift attendant in a hotel near Salzburg in the 1950s. Reincarnation is the story of a lift attendant’s jacket being reincarnated as a timeless piece of women’s wear,” explains Lagerfeld.
