LCF’s BA Fashion Textiles: Embroidery student You Mi Choi showcases a collection with the attention to colourful intricate detail and silhouette.
Within the kaleidoscopic pattern of the Chartres Cathedral’s western rose window is an age old artist expression of the Last Judgment. It speaks of finality and eternality, a line that leaves no space for turning back once crossed. The fashion world is bound by unspoken rules and boundaries, unseen lines that designers work desperately to cross every day. This collection takes inspiration from the window and pushes the once sacred image into an expression of individualism. The dress departs from conventional standards of ready to wear fashion, challenging our modern senses by mixing in medieval and gothic elements. It serves as a reminder that even as we move into a dizzying age of technological sophistication where everything seems possible with the touch of our fingertips, a part of us will always be shadowed by the past, caged in by the grills of our self imposed conventions.
